Back in the olde town for my mom's birthday; just went to the super expensive new downtown market, then went to Taste of Kentwood and got a very impressive amount of food for $5. Saw old Kentwood faces, rented the Meaning of Life from Family Video that still had our old address saved somewhere, and now we're about to watch it with our surplus coffee, donut holes, popcorn, and cotton candy from ToK, and party like it's 1999. Viva la Livejournal!

I've got the missed-my-chance-with-a-girl blues...

...and I'm all out of bubblegum.
...and I still can't find my harmonica.

On the plus side, this led to a bit of apartment cleaning earlier today, likely out of equal parts frustration and determination to find the darn thing. Unfortunately I still have the first and not the second.

Life. Waaaauuughlbleh. That might be a good sound for it.

Just had a calc exam; it could've gone better, but I don't think it was horrible. Mark one thing off the list.

Tomorrow is cash-tax-returns-and-pay-huge-bills-with-them day. Not thrilling, but I've had worse days. At least with the returns I'll be able to pay off more than half of what I owe Bronson right away. Not a fan of debt.

Celery and carrots? Maybe I should buy some of those, those vegetable things. Maybe even tomorrow, because the other stop on my list after getting rid of most of my money is the food co-op.

Big things looming ahead, mostly for Marmalade Dog. I've got to plan the Subcommittee of Civic Justice game, brush up on Arkham Horror rules, and plan what I'm going to do for my panel/presentation on free gaming and the Open Development Dice System. Lotsa stuff. And then there's the school stuff: talking to an advisor about my academic probation, talking to an advisor about FAFSA stuff for next fall if I end up taking multiple classes, and keeping up on my current class through it all as we get near the end of the semester. And to combine the two, try to find someone in the math department who's interested in some statistical analysis of various dice systems, and generate some probability curves. It's going to be a busy month.

Life is like Brooklyn; sometimes you're the plumber, and sometimes you're... H.P. Lovecraft?

Thursday was a fun day. I got home from class to find my power out; a delayed casualty of the recent ice storm. I finished reading Journey to the West (woo!) and then promptly departed for Erin's for more watching of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, from 1989. I find myself wanting to put some sort of witty observation here about it, but I got nothin'. Sorry.

I also noticed that, since I have Thursday evenings free now, I could start going to judo again. I've been feeling myself get more and more out of shape recently, and it was wonderful to go move around and hit the mat and get very, very out of breath. I'm still sore now from actually having to use my muscles. In addition to that, I decided to stick around and see what the aikido class later in the night was like. I was rewarded with a class of 5 people including myself (going on at the same time as the MMA class on the other side of the mat), with the average age being probably 20 years older than me. I think I found what I'm going to be doing with my Thursday nights for a long time. Despite being utterly exhausted when I got back my brain felt like it was working a lot more like I expect it to; it's amazing what some vigorous exercise can do. And the exhaustion should get less, as my body remembers the meaning of "aerobic exercise".

Peace, love, and ohgodmyshouldermuscles

MATHS. I NEED TO DO THEM.

I don't care how bad at homework I am, I am going to do well in this class. By finishing my homework. Grarglebreagh!

On a side note, I'm almost done reading Journey To The West. That'll be two classic Chinese novels down. Then I can start planning the game I'll be running at Marmalade Dog this year. Subcomittee of Civic Justice III: Journey To The West! It should be most exciting.

Single again. Better circumstances this time than last time, but it's still hard not to feel overwhelmed by life. Especially with homework.

Someday, I'll start putting intelligible posts up here again, that people actually want to read. Someday.

A rambling, long post about learning about computers.Collapse )

In other news, I'm exhausted from a great Snowy Winter Adventurethon, with lots of sledding and snow throwing and hill climbing and even pizza. I need to make some badges for people, possibly out of broken bits of sled from one of the busted-up ones at the bottom of the cliff hill we were sledding down. I'll need a hot glue gun or something, though.

Really just some things, what can I say? [Feb. 2nd, 2011 | 19:11]

I feel like I've been fighting a bad bout of perfectionism recently, so here's an attempt at doing something poorly, rather than doing nothing extremely well.

Things! They're good and bad. Been super stressed, falling behind on homework that's too easy, contemplating do-it-yourself transhumanism, walking through 2 1/2 ft. snow drifts, playing FreeCiv with my sister and her husband, and forgetting whatever it was I was going to end this list with. Hrm.

Other things! They've been happening. Homebrew Channel on the Wii makes it 10 times better, computers have been doing lots of failing to turn on properly, and watching Snake In Eagle's Shadow again with my girlfriend causes the wanting to remember how to use my body again to happen. Planning for Snowy Winter Adventurethon and getting the place cleaned up for my sister's next visit...hasn't been happening.

I'd put in an LJ cut and ramble more, but I don't remember how to at the moment.

I've gotten pretty tired of Facebook using every aspect of the way you interact with others to generate advertising revenue. LJ isn't quite so bad.

I get to spend a lot of my time worrying that someday I'll be getting lumped in with people who think that companies are "out to get them", just because I don't like using internet services when I can't predict what the service I'm using may eventually be able to do with the information they gather.

End post!

Ah, it's been a while since I've posted from 25 ft. up in a tree.

Back at Western, retaking Electronics to raise my GPA. Trying to get my body to remember how to move around, climbing trees. This isn't a very comfortable tree, but it isn't full of ants either.

I think I need to be spending a lot more time outside.

Trying to make complete, intelligible posts leads to me never posting.

I talked to an advisor at Western today, and got the thing I need to fill out to try to get re-admitted. Hopefully, that will all go smoothly.

I had an urge the other day to make some lentil soup. I poked around, looked at some recipes, and feel sufficiently prepared to wing it sometime soon.

I'm starting to think more seriously about developing O.D.D.S. 6000, the Open Development Dice System, and using it as an excuse to learn a version control system like Mercurial, which would be useful as a Linux person.

A day. [Dec. 30th, 2008 | 22:25]

[Current Music |Joanna Newsom - Only Skin]

Had a pretty good day today. I completed my adventure, which started with one of my housemates finding a laptop in a dumpster, and ended with the owner coming and picking it up.

There was a potential for danger and corporate conspiracies and all that though. Just so you know.

I also got my new handheld, the Nokia N800, which uses memory cards that are still made, unlike my old one. It's pretty snazzy. It's got Skype support, and it came with a voucher for 3 months of unlimited calls to phones, so I used that to call my mom and my sister. I can talk to people via phone now!

I also managed to crash the N800 to the point where I needed to reinstall the OS within 3 hours of getting it. It takes some serious skill with computers to do that accidentally within that time frame. It's running smooth now.

I mopped, I fiddled with my tablet instead of getting around to doing laundry, I got this song stuck in my head again. All in all, a pretty good day, especially after working 32 out of the previous 51 hours as of 6 last night. I'm feeling kinda depressed for no real reason now, though. This song is good.
